How the course works:

By breaking the whole mixing process down into 3 easy to follow stages you and your fellow students will soon not only understand what makes a good mix, but will (with our help, guidance and a little practice) soon be able to beatmatch and mix your favourite tunes seamlessly within a matter of weeks.

During the course you'll learn about all the different ways of mixing, like CDJ, Vinyl and PC/Laptop. you'll learn about all the different types of equipment, how it works works so you can use it correctly.  you'll learn the correct way to set up and use a sound system enabling you to get the best out of it without damaging speakers etc.. but more importantly without damaging your ears.

Promote Yourself

During the 8-weeks you'll learn how to promote yourself effectively. How to get work and how to stay ahead of the competition. You'll learn how to program your music for maximum effect, plus how to produce, share and upload great promo mixes that'll not only get you noticed, but most importantly get listened to.

Throughout the course, whilst perfecting you’re mixing skills we’ll also teach you the inside secrets of how industry works. You'll learn what nightclub managers and promoters are really looking for in a DJ, plus how to elevate yourself above the competition (and believe me there’s a lot of competition out there).

Make Money!

One of the most important aspects of the course is to make sure you're ready to go out and earn money in your new career. This means teaching you every aspect of being a true professional DJ like how to use a microphone properly, how to drive and control a dance-floor, plus how to run yourself as a professional business.

The 8 Week Course

Throughout the 8 weeks our aim is to teach you how to mix naturally and effortlessly, focusing in on any area you may be struggling with to help make the most of your preferred music and help you become a truly top class Professional DJ.

In addition to this, each week includes a short lesson (no more than half hour) to help give you a good understanding of how the industry works so you can take full advantage.

At the end of each lesson you’ll be given a full set of course notes to take home and keep so you can look back and digest the information at any time.

During the lessons we’ll teach you not just ‘how’ to be a fully professional DJ, but how to get to grips with all the aspects of becoming a truly successful DJ and most importantly how to get those all-important Gigs and earn money!

The lessons are structured as follows:

Week 1: Course introduction – Tech Intro: Equipment overview/showcase

Here you’ll meet you Tutor(s) and fellow students for the first time and once the initial course introduction is complete you'll begin your first lesson

First week is all about Tech Intro. Here you’ll be given a complete overview of all the Hardware and Equipment. You'll be shown what it does, how it all works, but more importantly how it use it properly plus some do's and don’ts when setting it all up.

Once that is done the rest of the session is devoted to your first introduction to Mixing/Beatmatching.

Week 2: Tech/Sound system setup & Music Formats

On the second week you’ll learn all about the different music formats and different ways to play music from traditional CD’s to Time coded Vinyl, Laptops and Digital Midi Controllers. You'll also be shown how to produce the best sound quality when playing out by learning the correct use of sound systems and monitors and most importantly how to avoid damaging your ears!

Once that is done its straight on to the mix with more hands on Mixing/Beatmatching.

Week 3: Mixing techniques/EQ/Gain Control

By week three we’ll be getting seriously into the Mix, by the end of this session you should have a good understanding of how various mixes are constructed, how to create one that sounds professional and balanced, plus how to Beatmatch without the aid of a Sync button.

Also on this session we’ll teach you a few basic microphone techniques (optional)

Week 4: Set Building/Music Programming

During this session you’ll learn secrets to building a great set that will have ANY crowd chanting your name. Anyone can play the top 10 tracks and get a good reaction, but once you learn how to program a set correctly. Here you’ll learn how to fill and control a dance floor and know how to take an audience on a musical journey

Plus plenty of Mixing/Beatmatching practice (without Sync) & Phrasing

Week 5: Advanced Tech (Traktor v Serato)

This is where we really get into the Tech. By now you should have a strong Idea of how you want to present your music. So whether you’re going to play using time coded CD’/Vinyl or use Digital Midi Controllers we’ll take you through everything you need to know about Digital DJing including essential file maintenance plus the controversial Sync button.

The Traditional Mixing and Beatmatching training continues but includes Sync

Week 6: Digital Techniques Samples/Loops/FX

This is where we get into all the fancy stuff, how to make, store and use loops, samples and sound effects to really make your set stand out above the rest. You’ll also learn about Club environments and why/how they differ from playing at home.

The Mixing and Beatmatching continues but with some basic Scratching techniques thrown in

Week 7: Recording your DJ Mixes

This is one of the most important lessons of the course. Here you’ll not only learn how to create, burn and print an eye catching CD that will get you noticed, but we’ll show you how to present your music in such a way that will keep your audience listening and wanting to hear more.

Also, more Mixing and Beatmatching practice for the final weeks including Sync and Harmonic mixing styles

Week 8: Promoting yourself

Finally we’ll wrap it all together with a short lesson on how to promote yourself. Today there are many ways to promote yourself as a DJ, we’ll not only show the best ways to upload your music and use social media to get you heard, but also give you the inside Industry knowledge to build a fan base and elevate you above the competition. Here you’All also learn to understand the difference between Nightclub Managers and Nightclub Promoters, what makes them tick and more importantly what they’re looking for in a DJ

Then it’s Graduation time! Time to put all your skills together for one final mixing showcase before you’re presented with your certificates by your proud (often emotional) Tutors.
